Bob's Story

Bob Regan grew up in South Lake Tahoe, CA where he learned guitar at an early age. He played in bands during high school and later while attending the University of California at Davis. Upon graduating with a degree in Psychology, he turned to music full-time, performing with his band, the Skins, a top draw in Northern California during the 1970s. In 1980, Regan moved to Los Angeles to pursue a solo artist career and, within a few years, was signed to Curb/CBS Records. He recorded one album which, although not a commercial success, led him to the realization that his strong suit was songwriting. In 1985, he made the move to Nashville, Tennessee where he was quickly signed as a staff songwriter and soon, top Country artists were recording and having hits with his songs. His run continued for nearly 30 years.

In 2012, Regan retired from commercial songwriting and promptly founded Operation Song™ , a nonprofit which helps veterans and their family members tell their stories in songs. The program was quickly embraced by the veteran, military, and therapeutic communities and has since expanded beyond Middle Tennessee, hosting retreats and programs around the country.

Upon growing Operation Song™ to the point of sustainability, Bob retired once again and, in 2022, began writing, recording, and releasing his own songs as an artist for the first time in over 40 years.  His current album, “This Far Down the Road,” consisting of 10 solo-written and solo performed songs, can be heard on all streaming platforms.

In recent years, Regan has become a regular contributor to the Boston Globe, writing columns about his youth in California, his career, and the experience of aging.

Regan currently divides his time between his summer cabin near South Lake Tahoe, CA and Nashville, TN.
